We sweat so much in practice so we don't bleed in battle

Michael Foley

Owner, Director of CORE Function, Director of Athlete Performance

Michael's first introduction to the gym came when he was just 9 years old with his father, and instantly he fell in love with the benefits strength training brought to his in-game performance. Starting working in gyms at 15 years old, Michael has literally been in the gym business his entire life. At 17 he was fortunate enough to have met his mentor, who opened his eyes to the world of functional training with one simple question: Why sit down to lift weight up?

Since then, Michael has worked with clients of all ages and abilities, ranging from 4-83 years old including populations ranging from Divison 1 athletes to geriatrics and professional fighters to clients with neuromuscular disorders (i.e. MS, Parkinson's, etc.). Combining his knowledge within the field of training and applying it to real life movements, Michael has blended his unique form of functional training to be able to create individualized training programs for each client he sees.

Michael was a high school hockey, football, and track (javelin & discus) athlete, later competing at the collegiate level in hockey. He's still an avid boxer and golfer, and references his earliest childhood memories as boxing in his family's home basement with his father

Mark Foley

Owner, Director of CORE Boxing, General Manager, Maintenance

Mark has been involved in boxing for over 30 years and an avid fitness nut for even longer. Starting in high school playing football, Mark learned that a little hard work can bring you a long way.

In his late 20's he fell in love with traditional strength training, working with a good friend and bodybuilder who opened his eyes to the world of heavy lifting. Since then, Mark doesn't know how to not learn something new, constantly researching and testing new exercises, boxing drills, and programs. If you're in need of some motivation, look no further. You'll feel like you're fighting for the world title under Mark's direction, whether it be hitting a bag, pad work, body drills, or one of his specially designed programs.

Mark truly is a one man army: working with the female fight team here at CoreBox; assisting in the athletic development program for high school athletes; is our membership coordinator; and is the main reason the gym is spotless and running well every day.

Pretty much if you need anything, from memberships to a mop, or pad work to class descriptions, Mark will know what's going on.

Matt Harkins

Boxing Trainer, Personal Trainer

Matt has been boxing for over 7 years, starting at the age of 15. Playing football at the time, and not being too fond of the traditional strength training related to the sport, Matt found other ways to stay in shape for his seasons, and eventually his passion in boxing.

Over the years, Matt has perfected his craft by challenging himself in the ring in several bouts and countless hours of sparring with anyone really. Matt can't say no to a good sparring session, whether it's his 4 year old boxing client or a seasoned professional fighter.

Matt is currently studying motor development at Bridgewater State University. His dream is to become an adaptive physical education teacher upon his graduation. Matt blends his future profession and his current passion with each client and class that he works with, creating a laid back, yet incredibly challenging atmosphere that all levels of fitness can benefit from.

Alyssa Mazzella

Boxing Trainer, Personal Trainer

Alyssa first started training when she was only 19 at the Seacoast Family YMCA in New Hampshire while getting her Bachelors degree in Kinesiology from UNH. She’s been in the fitness industry and personal training ever since! During her studies at UNH, she interned at Tufts in the cardiac department as well as performed multiple research studies on older individuals and strength training. Her degree is in Exercise Science with a minor in Nutrition and she is ACSM personal training certified.

Ever since she was little she always had a passion for helping people as well as exercise. She grew up playing soccer, running track, as well as backpacking through the White Mountains in Maine! Alyssa’s annual father daughter backpacking adventures started when she was only 8 and they’ve only missed 2 years and have gone every year since, dogs and all!

Alyssa might only be 5’ tall but her personality speaks volumes. Shes one of the most caring individuals you will meet and is always working to help anyone meet their goal. But don’t let her small stature fool you, she’ll make you work your butt off...but she’ll do it with a smile.

Alyssa is recognized for her ability to encourage and support people to do their best and has always been able to tailor any workout to meet individuals needs. She is one of the most motivating personally trainers gyms have ever had. Alyssa’s training style focuses her workouts based on functional movements and the ability to keep people able to move well while achieving their goals.

Champions don't show up to get everything they want. They show up to give everything they have.

- Matt Lisle

Matt O'Donnell

Boxing Trainer, Head of CORE Fight Boxing Team

Matt has been involved in sports and any type of exercise as long as he can remember. In his younger years, he tried every sport but it wasn't until his childhood friend introduced him to boxing where he found his calling. Immediately he fell in love with the sport, training under the tutelage of the late great Jimmy Farrell Jr.

Matt and Jimmy went everywhere fighting anyone they put in front of him, building a record of 45-17 as an amateur and sparring with World Champions, Olympians, and pretty much anyone who wanted to box.

Matt's teaching method is derived from Jimmy Farrell's coaching, who always stressed the fundamentals for all fighters, while highlighting minor adjustments to make each fighter unique based on their individual strengths and attributes. Training to fight means you do the same drill a million times, not until you get it right, but until you can't get it wrong.

You must have a goal in your life, or otherwise be prepared to be used by those who do have them.

Ryan Norton

Athlete Performance, Personal Trainer

Ryan first started his fitness endeavors when he was in 6th grade and was jokingly made fun of by a friend for his inability to do 1 push up. After that, he began doing push ups everyday and has not stopped since. This has led Ryan to pursue a degree in Exercise and Health Sciences with a minor in Psychology at UMass Boston.

During his time in high school as a cross country runner and hockey player, Ryan trained as an athlete here at CoreBox for two years. Starting to pursue his college degree, Ryan began helping to train the youth athletes here at the gym, always craving more knowledge and learning under the CoreBox system. Ryan's knowledge in both athlete development and continuing education in the field of exercise and health sciences has allowed him to become a well rounded trainer who is always on the lookout for new ideas and exercises.

Ryan continues to practice what he preaches each week, doing similar workouts to his clients while still experimenting with new exercises in hopes to benefit both himself and all clients.

- Elvis

Elvis

Mascot

Elvis, "The King", certainly lives up to his name. Still growing into his size, this Bull Mastiff puppy is nothing but a ball of love. You'll find him hanging out on the couch or hanging behind the front desk. And yes, occasionally he may find his way into interrupting your set, but that's his way of spotting your reps.
